Lewis Sykes’ Whitney Triptych at NOISE

Whitney Triptych v1.2 – an audiovisual artwork by Lewis Sykes produced as the research for his Ph.D. project, The Augmented Tonoscope, has been judged “Outstanding” by curator Janey De Nordwall from over 5,000 festival submissions to the NOISE 2014 festival – “A national celebration of the UK’s next generation of creative talent, handpicked by the best in the business”. Looking North: The Arts Ecology in Manchester

After Maximo Caminero, an artist from Florida, deliberately smashed a vase that was part of an installation by Ai Weiwei at the Pérez Art Museum in Miami, he made the following statement to the Miami New Times: 

”I did it for all the local artists in Miami that have never been shown in museums here. They have spent so many millions now on international artists. It’s the same political situation over and over again. European showcase for Ana Rosa Hopkins

Two residencies abroad for School of Art postgrad. SWAPPING the rain of Manchester for the sunny climes of Spain and Portugal, postgrad student Ana Rosa Hopkins will be spending her summer taking part in two art residencies abroad. Making Traditions

Lucy Wright has her final PhD exhibition in the evening of April  29th at the People’s History Museum and it would be lovely if you could make it. In addition to display of photographs and costumes produced during my research, there will also be performances by a number of local groups I have worked with, including Irlam Royalettes Morris Dancers, 2nd Alexandra Park Girl Guides and Lymm Morris Men.

Congratulations to MIRIAD PhD student Lucy Wright who has secured a one year post as research associate on an AHRC-funded project at the Centre for Enterprise, MMU called ‘Gut Feeling’ in Designing and Developing New Products in Small Creative Companies. Lucy’s PhD viva is due to take place at the end of April.
